Lincoln had to take a trip to the ER a couple of weeks ago, and you might be surprised by the ending.
You might even laugh.
Let’s set the scene.
It’s 7:15 on a random school night, and bedtime is quickly approaching. Apparently, much faster than Link would have liked.
Link starts getting REALLY upset.
I try talking him down and asking what’s wrong, but he’s hesitant to tell me. Finally, he looks at me and says…
“I’m scared to tell you!”
Welp. Immediately, all my red flags are waving.
I tell him he’s safe to tell me and that he’s not going to be in trouble.
That’s when he drops the bomb.
He swallowed one of Naomi’s toys.
Not only did he swallow it, but according to Link, it was currently STUCK IN HIS THROAT AND HURTING.
Obviously, I immediately shouted for Mark.
Within minutes, Mark and Link are heading to the ER to figure out what in the world our child has swallowed, while I stay home with Naomi.
Now, Mark had some questions.
Mainly because Link said he had swallowed this toy much earlier in the day. Since then, he had successfully eaten breakfast, lunch AND dinner.
Suspicious? Maybe.
But when your five-year-old tells you there’s a toy stuck in his throat, you don’t exactly respond with, “Ehhh, let’s see how this goes.”
So, off to the ER they went!
Once there, the doctor checked him over and felt around his throat where Link said it hurt.
Then the doctor pushed on his stomach. “That hurts!”
Hmm.
Then, just to see what would happen, the doctor squeezed his leg and asked if it hurt as well.
You guessed it.
“That Hurts!”
Hahaha.
At this point, I think everyone was beginning to have a few questions about the mysterious swallowed toy.
But obviously, none of us were taking any chances. They sent him for an X-ray to make sure everything was okay.
And… Nothing. No toy. Nothing stuck.
Everything looked completely fine.
So, Link was discharged, and by the time he and Mark finally made it home, it was around 10:30 p.m.
At this point, I had questions!!
I started asking Link what happened, what the doctor said, how he was feeling, and then finally asked him:
“You promise mommy that you really swallowed a toy? Did it actually get stuck in your throat?”
Link stopped.
Then he let out the LOUDEST audible gasp, as if this child had just invented the light bulb that just went off above his head.
“AHHH! I think it is GONE!”
…
Excuse me?
DUDE.
You mean the toy that required an entire evening at the ER has just… disappeared?!
And that, my friends and family, is the story of Link’s recent trip to the ER.
No toy.
No mysterious medical emergency.
Just one very convincing five-year-old, a late-night X-ray, two exhausted parents, and a bedtime that was successfully delayed by approximately three hours.
Until next time!
